Founded by Romans, adored by Venetians, Poreč is a true gem full of history and heritage. The whole old town center, due to its turbulent and long past, is declared a monument of culture. After setting foot on the land, take a walk through a history more than two thousand years old. The most valuable cultural site in Poreč, the Euphrasian Basilica, was registered on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997. This basilica dates back from the 6th century and it is the only surviving example of the Byzantine art from that period. It is well known for its bawell preserved beautiful gold mosaics.
Pula is particularly interesting because of its Roman architecture. The most famous and important monument, is the Amphitheatre, popularly called the Arena of Pula, which was once the site of gladiator fights. It was built in the 1st century AD during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, and it is one of the best preserved amphitheatres in the world. During the summer, many world-renowned musicians perform in the Arena turning it into probably the most beautiful stage in the world. The Arena is also a home to one of the oldest film festivals in Europe which has over the years attracted many glamorous Hollywood stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren and Orson Welles.
Rovinj is the pearl of the Adriatic Sea, a town developed from the settlement that dates back from 7th century. Today it is a place with history that should be explored and the view of the town is always the best from the sea side.
